Stimuli + Sensory Receptor + Signal Transduction + Time = Amplification Of The Signal

Stimuli pl. stim u li (-li-') A stimulant.

That which can elicit or evoke an action or response in a cell, an excitable tissue, or an organism.

Sensory Receptor

In physiology, any structure which, on receiving environmental stimuli, produces an informative nerve impulse. In response to stimuli the sensory receptor initiates transduction in the same cell or in an adjacent one.

Signal Transduction

In biology, a mechanism that converts a mechanical/chemical stimulus to a cell into a specific cellular response.

Time

A nonspatial continuum in which events occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future. The rate of speed of a measured activity.
